The purpose of this posting is not to advertise products for this particular OWB, but to show PROOF that if high levels of government (state and federal) do not get involved there will not be a "self cleansing" of the OWB market.

We also stumbled across a certain individual who represents a certain lobbying group for the OWB companies (name withheld) posting on message boards that being quoted as:

" There are now outdoor wood-fired furnaces that meet US EPA guidelinesfor clean burning. These furnaces are as clean burning as indoor woodstoves. And, EPA certified indoor wood stoves are about 70% efficient(not half as efficient as the article states)."

Well that is wonderful, but the FACTS ARE people are buying the crappy older models of OWBs because they are CHEAPER! When did this so-called super OWB come out? Oh thats right, they are using their thwarted results which they compiled in a lab somewhere. And we all know that the new OWBs are so clean and efficient right?

New York State seeking comments on OWBs

Posted by freedomofair on April 29, 2010 at 12:58 AM

Finally, New York state is taking a positive direction in dealing with OWBs. In this past week major news has come from New York from the state's

Department of Environmental Conservation. If you haven't already please take a look at the "News 2010" page and read about 10 stories talking about the New York actions being taken.

Below are some of the keys to what the DEC is trying to do:

1) Setting a minimum distance that new OWBs are to be located from neighboring properties.

2) Certain fuel restrictions to be used in the OWB

3) Stack height requirements for new and existing outdoor wood boilers.

4) Nuisance provision for both new and existing outdoor wood boilers.

5) Bans the use of existing boilers in the summer when neighbors arelikely to be enjoying the outdoors and have their windows open.

6) Under the rules, boilers in use since before September 2005 must be taken out by August 2015. Newer models installed through April 2011will have to be gone no later than August 2020.

As quoted by the DEC:

"The rule will eventually phase out the use of existing units that do not comply with the new standards."

Here is an important link regarding the process:

http://www.dec.ny.gov/regulations/64459.html

Also click here to review the NY Attorney General's report from 2008 regarding OWBs:

Like the previous states listed in previous blog entries, PLEASE VOICE YOUR CONCERNS. This is finally the opportunity for all in New York state who have been victimied by an OWB to be heard. If your a resident of New York and have been victimized by an OWB, please make an effort to attend one of the meetings listed in the blog post above.  If your voice is not heard your problem may NEVER go away........

The public comment period for will end at 5:00 p.m. on July 2, 2010.Written comments may be submitted to: NYSDEC Division of Air Resources,625 Broadway, Albany, NY 12233-3251 or by email:[email protected]

Recent News

Posted by freedomofair on March 14, 2010 at 1:01 AM

You may or may not have noticed lately, but there has been an abundance of stories in Alaska in the news section this site regarding "OWBs" and wood smoke pollution.

Alaska Fairbanks Borough has been mandated by the U.S. EPA to clean up its PM 2.5 levels by a certain date because they have some of the poorest air quality in all of the U.S. To follow this you can read the stories in the "news section" for more background.

The point we wanted to make was this:

It is apparent Outwood Boilers are part of the major source of PM 2.5 in this borough in Alaska. In this part of the country OWBs have been unregulated for many years and now they are playing "catch up" in trying to curb their pollution problems with OWBs.

The mayor of Fairbanks is being admirable in this as being quoted in many articles stating he is for regulation of OWBs and other burning devices.

Fairbanks is an example of sitting dormant for many years, doing nothing, and now they are paying the consequences of smoke pollution.

Can we learn from our city in Alaska? Even Alaska is being forced to resolve their OWB influx. This is the part of the country where OWBs could easily be used on a year round basis.

If OWBs continue to be unregulated in other states how many years will it be before we are FORCED to do something about this in other states?

Curb the problem now and save our lungs the hassle.

Guestbook Comments

Posted by freedomofair on March 2, 2010 at 10:43 PM

Well to my dismay we had to "shut off" the guestbook comments for the time being.

On a daily basis we were being "spammed" by up to 10 "fake" guestbook signatures a day. It was really becoming a problem having to babysit the comments in the guestbook. Temporarily the only way you can comment is if you "subscribe" as a friend.

We apologize about this inconvience but the "spamming" of unwanted posts cannot continue. We are responsible for the content of this page and the guestbook entries. We cannot allow "adult" websites to post in our guestbook. That is not what this page is intended for.

If you wish to sign the guestbook you can in two ways:

1) subsrcibe to this site and sign it

2) Send your comments to us at [email protected] and put "Guestbook comment" in the title of the email.

3) Additionally, if you're on MySpace feel free to comment there as we have more control over the content posted there.

Until a way can be figured out to avoid spamming, this is all we can offer if you wish to share your comments.

"Biomass" News and Research

Posted by freedomofair on February 20, 2010 at 6:55 AM

We have added a section to the Studies, Research, and Laws Page with related articles and research concerning "biomass" burning as a reneweble resource.

As you may know the OWB industry claims their products are "biomass" which is really bending the truth of what biomass means and represents.

Check out the Wikipedia page on Biomass: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biomass

This section of the website  will be growing as we find more articles related to Biomass facts. If you know of any please feel free to email them to us.

Videos Page Now Up To Date

Posted by freedomofair on February 5, 2010 at 2:10 AM

The "Videos of the OWB"  Page is now up to date.

We have added our videos along with the videos of many other family's who have been impacted by the negligance and abuse of a neighbor's OWB.

If you have a video loaded to YouTube and would like to be added to the page, be all means please let us know.

As the old saying goes "Video Never Lies:"

In this case the the OWB industry lies. Problem is people believe them.

Even though it has been known for nearly 20 years OWBs are bad for the environment and human health.
